# PageWeight Light: a free desktop crawler that scores your internal linking

Every SEO has asked it about some site: this page is good, it converts, it should rank — so why does it sit on page 4? The usual answer is content or backlinks. Often it is neither: the page is starved of internal links. Nothing upstream passes weight to it, and no external link can fix what the site’s own graph refuses to feed.

I built a small desktop tool to see that problem in numbers. It is called **PageWeight**, and the free edition — PageWeight Light — is out now for Windows.

## What it does

Paste your site’s URL, press Start. The crawler walks your site, maps every internal link into a graph, and computes each page’s **conditional weight** — the metric old-school SEOs know from Page Weight Lite: classic PageRank math (damping 0.85), where the site average is 1.0.

The numbers read directly:

- **3.0** — three times stronger than an average page. A hub.
- **0.2** — nearly weightless. Starved of internal links.
- A money landing page ranked 40th by weight — a reason to re-link, today.

The graph view of the math is the point: weight is not assigned, it *flows*. Each page splits its weight evenly among its outgoing internal links; dead-end pages return theirs to the whole site, so totals never drift. You fix your internal linking, you watch the numbers move.

## Local by design

PageWeight Light runs 100% on your machine. No account, no cloud, and it **writes nothing to disk** — results live in the app window as a sortable table with every page’s weight, its share of the site’s total, and its inbound and outbound links. Your crawl data never leaves your computer; there is nothing to leak.

It ships as a single Windows executable: unzip, run, go. No installer, no Python, no dependencies.

## The catch, stated plainly

The free edition crawls up to **999 pages per crawl** (2 threads, a polite 0.5-second delay). That covers blogs, landing sites and small shops. There is no expiry, no registration, and no nags — it is a real tool, not a trial.

## For larger sites: Pro

If your site is bigger than 999 pages, or you want the analysis to outlive the app window, that is what **PageWeight Pro** ($99 once, lifetime license) is for:

- unlimited crawl size, threads up to you, delay as low as zero;
- an interactive **8-tab HTML report** — dashboard, force-directed link map, directories, broken links, redirects, external links, and link suggestions ranked by simulated weight gain;
- everything exports: pages/links/external/broken as CSV, the full graph as JSON, and an LLM-ready suggestions file with page excerpts;
- rescan of failed URLs without redoing the crawl.

The crawl engine and the weight math are identical in both editions — Pro removes the limits and gives you the report and the exports.
